A equipe de especialistas possibilita que se visualize um conjunto de cenários que pode se consolidar ou não a partir de determinados fatores econômicos ou de decisões de autoridades governamentais. Para se gerar uma média do nível de desmatamento, o ponto de partida de análise foram dados de 1999 a 2022. Desse modo, conseguiu-se fazer uma previsão do que se pode esperar para os anos de 2023, 2024 e 2025.
De forma didática, o economista sênior do Banco Mundial Cornelius Fleischhaker simplifica o que fizeram os pesquisadores do Ipam. “O primeiro modelo é, digamos, ignorante, porque é ignorante, só conhece o passado, só leva em conta a média de desmatamento do passado. No segundo, a econometria inclui o desmatamento dos anos anteriores e adiciona a previsão de indicadores econômicos dos próximos anos. Coloca em cima uma camada informada pela economia, que dá complexidade e também fornece mais informação, de certa forma, no sentido de indicar se a pressão econômica está crescendo”, diz.
A pesquisadora Rafaella Silvestrini, uma das coautoras do estudo, destaca um recrudescimento em certas regiões, em relação ao desmatamento. Uma delas é o sul do Amazonas e a outra, a Amacro (acrônimo que faz referência aos estados do Amazonas, Acre e Rondônia). “Desde 2017, 2018, percebe-se um aumento do desmatamento”, acrescenta.
Para Fleischhaker, uma das saídas para haver crescimento de setores econômicos sem que isso signifique a desproteção florestal é o aproveitamento de “terras em uso ineficiente, improdutivo”. “A floresta não tem muito impacto sobre a macroeconomia, mas o inverso, sim. As coisas que acontecem longe da floresta ainda têm impacto na floresta”, afirma.
