O viaduto começou a ser construído em maio de 2023, por meio de convênio entre o Departamento Nacional de Infraestrutura de Transportes (DNIT) e a prefeitura de Juiz de Fora. A obra custou cerca de R$ 20 milhões, e o governo federal foi responsável por 80% dos investimentos.
Também foram assinadas hoje duas ordens de serviço para o início da revitalização de trechos da BR-267/MG e da BR-499/MG. As obras terão investimento de cerca de R$ 88 milhões, e o prazo estimado para conclusão é de até 24 meses.
Juiz de Fora foi o último compromisso do presidente Lula em Minas Gerais nos últimos dias, após eventos em Contagem e em Belo Horizonte. Lula anunciou que nos próximos dias visitará as cidades de São Paulo, do Rio de Janeiro, de Salvador e Feira de Santana, na Bahia, do Recife e de Goiânia. “Quem quiser nos pegar, corra atrás de nós porque nós vamos viajar este país e melhorar a vida deste povo.”
O nome do viaduto é uma homenagem a uma mulher negra escravizada de Juiz de Fora que teve que conquistar sua liberdade na Justiça. Em 1873, Roza Cabinda quis comprar sua alforria, mas, ao oferecer o valor pelo qual havia sido avaliada, o comendador Henrique Halfeld negou-se a libertá-la. Roza ajuizou ação na Justiça e conseguiu ser libertada.
